The Project

India’s heaviest haul. Nabros had already set the benchmark with the 971 MT reactor movement to Bhatinda. This time, the assignment was to surpass it.

When L&T appointed Nabros to transport a 1,016 MT reactor from Kandla Port to IOCL Panipat, the number alone communicated the scale of what was being asked. A reactor weighing over a thousand metric tonnes, measuring 42.1 m × 7.2 m × 7.15 m, needing to travel from Gujarat to Haryana on Indian roads — roads that were not built for anything approaching this weight or dimension.

Nabros engineered a solution and executed it.

The Challenge

At 1,016 MT, the reactor pushed beyond every precedent in Indian heavy-haul logistics. The weight alone demanded a trailer configuration of a scale rarely deployed anywhere in the world. The dimensions — 42.1 metres in length — added a complexity layer that made every turn, every junction, and every bridge a problem to be solved before the convoy moved.

The corridor from Kandla to Panipat crosses significant distances and varied terrain — port approach roads, state highways, and national corridors — each with their own infrastructure constraints, permit requirements, and operational challenges. For a reactor of this weight and dimension, standard routing was not possible. Every element of the movement had to be custom-engineered.

For L&T and IOCL, whose project timelines were directly tied to this reactor’s arrival, precision and reliability were the only acceptable standards.

The Execution

Trailer Configuration & Load Engineering
The 1,016 MT reactor required an advanced 28-row axle configuration — 56 axle lines arranged in a 1+1 width setup with 16 tyres per row. This configuration, purpose-engineered for this specific load, distributed the reactor’s weight across the trailer system to remain within road and bridge load limits while maintaining the structural integrity of the cargo throughout the movement.

Every element of the trailer setup — axle configuration, tyre pressure management, load distribution, and connection methodology — was calculated and verified before the reactor was loaded.

Route Survey & Modification
A comprehensive route survey was conducted across the full Kandla-to-Panipat corridor. Every bridge, junction, overhead clearance, and road section was assessed for compatibility with the 1,016 MT load and the trailer’s dimensional footprint. Where the route presented obstacles, solutions were engineered — bypasses, temporary road reinforcements, and pre-cleared access points — before mobilisation.

Load Management & Convoy Operations
Throughout the movement, Nabros maintained precision load management — monitoring weight distribution, trailer performance, and road conditions in real time. The convoy moved under full escort deployment with continuous supervision from Nabros’ operations team, ensuring that any development along the corridor could be responded to immediately.

Statutory Permissions
The movement required coordination with highway authorities, local administrations, and regulatory bodies across multiple states. All statutory permissions were obtained in advance, with compliance maintained throughout the corridor.

The Outcome

The 1,016 MT reactor reached IOCL Panipat safely and on schedule — a new national benchmark in heavy-haul logistics, surpassing Nabros’ own record from the 971 MT movement. The successful delivery reinforced Nabros’ position at the forefront of heavy-haul and oversized cargo transportation in India and demonstrated that the company’s capability scales with the challenge.

When the load gets heavier, Nabros gets more precise.
