The Project

Moving an 83-metre wind turbine blade across 450 km of public roads demands a level of preparation, engineering, and on-ground coordination that goes well beyond conventional logistics. When Nabros was assigned this movement from Halol, Gujarat to Kandla Port, the team approached it the way every complex blade movement is approached — with detailed planning before the first wheel turned.

The Challenge

An 83-metre blade on Indian roads eliminates the possibility of conventional routing. Every turn, every bridge, every overhead obstruction, and every stretch of narrow road becomes a problem that must be solved in advance. At 450 km, the corridor from Halol to Kandla crosses a range of road conditions — state highways, district roads, and port approach roads — each presenting their own constraints in terms of geometry, surface quality, and traffic.

Managing a load of this dimension across that distance, safely and on schedule, required engineering-led preparation that began long before the blade left the facility.

The Execution

Route Survey & Modification
Nabros conducted a comprehensive route survey across the entire 450-km corridor before mobilisation. Every kilometre was assessed for overhead clearances, turning radii, bridge load capacities, road widths, and surface conditions. Where the route presented obstacles, solutions were engineered in advance — temporary modifications, coordination with highway and local authorities, and pre-cleared access points were arranged to ensure uninterrupted movement.

Equipment & Configuration
The blade required a purpose-configured telescopic trailer setup — engineered to manage its length, distribute weight correctly, and provide the swept-path geometry needed to negotiate turns along the route. Equipment selection and rigging were carried out specifically for this movement.

Convoy Management
The convoy moved with a full escort deployment — vehicles positioned at the front, rear, and flanks of the load, with an Escort Supervisor overseeing the movement throughout. Real-time coordination between the escort team, the trailer operator, and the operations centre ensured any on-road development was responded to immediately.

Port Delivery
On arrival at Kandla Port, the blade was offloaded and positioned for onward handling — with Nabros coordinating port-side operations to ensure a seamless transition from road delivery to port lay-down.

The Outcome

The 83-metre blade reached Kandla Port safely across 450 km, without incident. The movement is a reflection of what methodical preparation and experienced execution deliver on every complex blade corridor — regardless of length, distance, or route difficulty.
